2024 Gala

This year we are celebrating the 100th Birthday of the ex Fairbourne 15” inch gauge Count Louis. Also, at the birthday celebrations will be 12” gauge Mad Bess.

Count Louis will be making a return visit to Fairbourne after attending our Centenary of Steam Gala in 2016 and will be offering rides along our ¼ mile of dual gauge track. Our own 15” Gauge Lister Gwril will also be running with Count Louis.

Making its first visit to Fairbourne is the Ruislip Lido Railway’s Mad Bess, it will be taking it in turns with resident steam engines Russell, Yeo & Sherpa and trains will depart each end on the hour & half hour throughout the day. As your ticket is valid all day, why not get off at the end of your journey, take time to enjoy yourselves, and come back pulled by a different engine?

At Barmouth Ferry there is a marquee with our gala model railway exhibition, including 16mm, G45 & O gauge layouts. There will also be the 7¼/5” gauge miniature railway, offering rides again this year, with steam, petrol & battery engines taking it in turn to give rides.

On the platform at Barmouth Ferry our Preservation Society (FRPS) will have a selection of games for all the family, live animals for you to photograph and get “up close & personal” plus handmade items sales stand. Also, this is where the Fairbourne Railway/FRPS Roadshow will be based, this is a combined sales and information stand. Selling a variety gifts, souvenirs and second hand transport books.

The Cafés at both ends of the line open will be open, serving a variety of cakes, snacks, sweets and ice-creams. Additionally, Barmouth Ferry Café will be serving some hot food including chips, sausage rolls and toasted teacakes, along with special milkshakes and Ice coffee.
